Fluorite, Chalcedony- Gobi Desert, Mongolia

Fluorite, Chalcedony- Gobi Desert, Mongolia

Fluorite, Chalcedony
Gobi Desert, Mongolia
Dimensions: 11.8 x 11 x 7 cm

Fluorite from the Choir area remains a distinctive Mongolian locality material, recognized among collectors for lustrous pale green cubic crystals and associations with quartz and calcite. This specimen in particular has a matrix that's reminiscent of chalcedony, almost a "grape agate" texture. Particularly appealing is the muted mineralogical palette: cool green fluorite against smoky gray-blue matrix, punctuated by small earthy tan to honey-colored secondary growths.

The fluorite ranges from nearly colorless to a delicate celadon green, with exceptional clarity along edges and faces. The cubes are distributed across the matrix in varying sizes. Smaller crystals scatter across the surface like fragments of ice, while several larger cubes anchor the lower portion and rise prominently from the center.
