Fluorite- Fairy Holes Pocket, Lady Annabella Mine, Eastgate, Weardale, Co. Durham, England
The Fairy Holes Pocket derives its name from a natural cave system that was partly consumed by the former Eastgate-Blue Circle quarry.
A stunning interpenetrated twin of fluorite crystals adorns an iron-rich, altered limestone matrix.
The fluorite within this pocket is enchantingly leafy-emerald green, showcasing an array of mild to excellent color-zoning in delightful shades of green and purple. Many crystals boast bright emerald-green edges that beautifully complement their mild lilac interior.
Exhibiting an elongated cubic habit with smooth faces and distinct nested square growth patterns, the crystals create a captivating contrast against a layer of snow-white calcite. Under the illumination of direct daylight, the fluorite naturally reveals a delicate lilac fluorescence, while the inner purple banded zone radiates a brilliant royal-purple glow.
