Millerite, Quartz- Halls Gap, Lincoln Co., Kentucky
Millerite, Quartz- Halls Gap, Lincoln Co., Kentucky
Halls Gap in Kentucky is a famous locality now closed off due to the danger posed by the increasingly eroded overhang over the collection site. Extracted from nickel-rich matrix during the late 70s to the late 80s, these specimens were extracted by local enthusiasts typically laying on their backs, chipping away at the hard rock until the geodes were extracted. Not all geodes guaranteed shiny needles of Millerite either! Halls Gap Millerite can also come with co-association of quartz, pyrite and calcite.
Locality: Halls Gap, Lincoln Co., Kentucky. Collected 7-12-81 from center east wall.
Dimensions: 6.2 x 4.3 x 3.5 cm. Comes mounted in specimen box.
